One of my favourite Hong Kong feature film from Wong Kar Wai director. Chungking Express (1994) is a story about love relationship of 2 cops character. There are two stories which intersect together. The signature style of the director, Wong Kar Wai love to use the main characters' voice over as narrative story telling. He focused and showed the details of the characters inner feeling. All the main characters are the famous talents in the Asia Cinema, such as Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung Chu Wai and Faye Wong. The highlight of the film was the wonderful soundtrack sing by Faye Wong. It's really matched the feeling of the scene (When she invade into Tony Leung's apartment house and has a home makeover). Most memorable part of this film is that Tony Leung didn't realise there are anything wrong and changes at his apartment. This feature film won the best actor (Tony Leung), best director and best picture at the International Film Festival. In this story, it's all about lover has the love addiction. This is a My favourite quotes in this film: Cop 223 (Takeshi Kaneshiro) "If memories could be canned, would they have expiry dates? If so, I hope they last for centuries" My favourite scenes in this film: Cop 663 (Tony Leung) talking to a soap, and also talking to a toy when he was alone. Based on the story content, director, actors/actress, art direction, cinematic shots/angle, music background and sound effect. THE OVERALL RATING : ☆☆☆☆ OUT OF 5 When I was study in RMIT for my creative media master degree, I always love to borrow around 3 movie DVDs from my university library. Here is one of my favourite foreign movie, "Amélie" (2001), a French movie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It was a comedy, fantasy and romance genre. Well, it is only suitable for mainly adult due of some sexual contents. The story is about a girl, Amelie share her imagination world which go through with her tragedy and fantasy journey. Her playful and optimistic personality surely make the audiences love her through her journey. This film has an uniques colour setting for special visual enjoyment. It does't has the usual colour setting compare to the typical Hollywood movie. It has the strong heavy colour mixture of yellow and green. For those audiences who have watch a lots of Hollywood movies, it will be a new experiences. This film has inspired me through the visual colour, camera shots (*Especially the Dutch shots) and God's voice (Third party) narrative storytelling for the protagonist's journey. I did enjoy the mix genre of the film, it has the influence from Chungking Express (1994) from Wong Kar-wai. The director played with the colour balance and contrast, there wasn't any correct colour balance in the film. Extreme close-up shots were applied a lot in every scenes. Amelia, has won for the Best film at the European Film Awards and best director. My favourite quotes in this film: "A woman without love, it's like a flower without sun" "You're gorgeous when you blush. Like a wild flower" Based on the story content, director, actors/actress, art direction, cinematic shots/angle, music background and sound effect. THE OVERALL RATING : ☆☆☆☆ OUT OF 5 |
